The "Celebrity"

What is it about famous people that make them so interesting?

Why is it, or is it, exciting to meet someone who is quote-unquote famous?

I guess if you come across a legend in your daily life, it's quite unusual. Take me for example. Have I met anyone famous? Until today, not really. I did meet Rolph Harris when I was like 6 - spose he's pretty famous - really only remember it because of a photo I had taken with him. I also saw Winston Peters on a plane on the way down to Wellington once...

My punk of a wife saw, didn't meet, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at Universal Studios when he opened the T2:3D experience there. She also recently rubbed shoulders, literally, with Kate Moss and her boyfriend, always forget his name, at LAX.

Anyway, I met someone famous today. He is a legend and I have the utmost respect for him. I am very passionate about the industry he is famous in. He is a music producer. In fact, some would say he is the music producer. Who am I talking about you ask?

Sir George Martin

Who am I talking about, you ask? For those of you who don't know. He is famous for his time spent at a certain London recording studio known as Abbey Road, with a certain band - some of you may have heard of - The Beatles.

I can't believe it. Ever since I heard an original stereo mix of The Beatles song Elenor Rigby, I've been fascinated by him. Of course, back in the 60's stereo was new. It was a fun and bizarre thing to work with - so why wouldn't you put the drums in one side, the strings on the left and the vocals in the middle? The result was an absolutely gnarly sound which, while it was a bit weird to my 'used to stereo sound' ears, was flippin' excellent! It has left an indellible (can't spell) mark on me and my dream of actually producing an album some day.

So finally something happened that's worth writing about - apart from coming home over Easter. See you soon...
