chronological snobbery

There are so many awesome movies that I have never seen, purely because they were made before I was born.

If I saw them in a video store, I probably wouldn't have got them out to watch them, unless I had been told that it was awesome. Two films I've seen recently that come into that category are Apocalypse Now, which I've already commented on and just this weekend One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

I have since found out that the latter won 5 oscars, basically the ones you want to get if you're a movie - Best Actor, Actress, Director, Picture and Adapted Screenplay.

I had heard of it but hadn't heard it was really really good. But it is. Jack Nicholson is awesome in it! The story is excellent. Can't say I really noticed the directing - not the sort of film that shows it off - however the performances the director got from the cast were outstanding! Including the debut of Brad Dourif, better known as Grima Wormtongue from LOTR or as I first enjoyed him as one of the best X Files bad guys from one of the best episodes - Luther Lee Boggs in Beyond the Sea.

Anyway, I've decided to make a point of looking for older movies now to watch - to see what brilliance I've missed out on.
