X FILE BEINGS

And after calming me down with some orange slices and some fetal spooning, the ET revealed to me his singular purpose. He said:
'You are the chosen on, the one who'll deliver the message. A message of hope for those to choose to hear it and a warning for those who do not.'

...

Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position, such a heavey burden now to be the one.
Born to bare and read to all the details of our ending, to write it down for all the world to see. But I forgot my pen... Typical.

I seem to go from obsession to obsession with this album. The dormant X Files freak is being awoken.

I imagine editing a video of my favourite scenes from the series to this song - don't have enough time or processing power at the moment.

chronological snobbery

There are so many awesome movies that I have never seen, purely because they were made before I was born.

If I saw them in a video store, I probably wouldn't have got them out to watch them, unless I had been told that it was awesome. Two films I've seen recently that come into that category are Apocalypse Now, which I've already commented on and just this weekend One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

I have since found out that the latter won 5 oscars, basically the ones you want to get if you're a movie - Best Actor, Actress, Director, Picture and Adapted Screenplay.

I had heard of it but hadn't heard it was really really good. But it is. Jack Nicholson is awesome in it! The story is excellent. Can't say I really noticed the directing - not the sort of film that shows it off - however the performances the director got from the cast were outstanding! Including the debut of Brad Dourif, better known as Grima Wormtongue from LOTR or as I first enjoyed him as one of the best X Files bad guys from one of the best episodes - Luther Lee Boggs in Beyond the Sea.

Anyway, I've decided to make a point of looking for older movies now to watch - to see what brilliance I've missed out on.

a predicament

I ask for something controversial and I get called narrow minded - a fight could ensue.

However, if I start to defend myself and say that I'm not narrow minded, then that only stoops to the level of the insult. But if I just let it go, then my silence on the matter could imply that it's the truth.

Not quite the controversy I was after - I was looking for some intelligent discussion/debate/argument. What do I get?

However, the point was rightly raised, that I wasn't relating to the line but I also don't think it was necessarily a good thing to be continuously singing in my head. Now funnily enough I keep singing "but you changed that all for me..."

Now having listened to the song again (frustratingly never the whole way through - keep getting interrupted) I am able to enjoy it more enlightened than before.

On a more random note - I saw an original Picasso this weekend, not quite as impressive as I would have imagined, but at least I can say I've seen an original painting done by the one and only Pablo Picasso.

here i go again

After reading the brief article that is at the link below, it got me thinking again.

http://www.hollywoodjesus.com/musicdetail.cfm?i=D3981D2E-DD0D-8CAB-ACD7515CD9BD6BB5

This elaborates a little bit on one of my earlier questions regarding the story behind 10,000 Days in my 'Arrogance' post.

Not much more than the obvious is stated apart from the fact that Maynard was raised a Baptist. How interesting?

I often wonder whether song lyrics are mocking or genuinely searching. I'm not saying I think either way, in fact despite the author of the above article's hope, I'd still lean towards mocking when it comes to Tool; however, the quoted lyrics in that article are very interesting. Reading further into Jambi (a song which I had stopped listening to because of the line "tempted the devil with my song", which for some reason kept getting stuck in my head), I realised that I hadn't noticed the context of "but you changed that all for me".

It makes me think again and illustrates the importance of thinking about what I listen to.

It also raised another question for me. Maynard was raised a Baptist right, so if things had gone differently with his mum, he might still be a Christian (quote-unquote). So, here's my gripe - he's obviously a talented musician - so where the hell are the Christian bands who have the potential to be as awesome as tool?

I still have never found a Christian band that I can listen to non-stop and then pick up a year or so later and think that it's still as cool as when I first heard it. Is it because Christians aren't as talented? Is it because Christians aren't as intelligent? I think not. So why I ask you? Why? I mean I heard this Christian guy's album a few days ago and about 15 seconds in I was bored - granted there was a whole 15 second where I was thinking this is quite cool - but then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Now what can I do about it? Not much, can't play anything to save my life, well anything except the trumpet - not exactly the most practical of instruments for a band. But maybe one day I'll actually achieve my goal of a home studio and record an album with musicians I know are insanely talented and I reckon could give tool a run for their money.

Arrogant? Yep, that's me.

time zone

so I found the way to make the time correct, makes the earlier post moaning about the times a little pointless

wait a minute, this whole thing is pointless

I'm secure about that though - not everything needs a point

of course, now the timing on the posts I did from home are wrong...

I find it kinda funny...

What's the point? I feel like having a bit of a moan. Don't really know what about, just feeling grumpy today. Partly because I'm over tired (I need to learn to go to bed earlier). Why go to bed early though when the next thing you have to do is get up and go to work? I'm sick of this place again. I hate working for someone who doesn't appreciate what you do and that no matter how hard you work, the only time anything is said is when something goes wrong. We had a really bad month in May - didn't even reach the half way point to the monthly target. Who's fault is that? The person in charge of marketing - hmmmm, I wonder who that is. Now, we're about to finish the quarter and we've pretty much made up for May. We will most likely be just under the target which means we don't get paid our bonus but the profit is almost the same as it would have been if we had hit the target. The stupid thing is, I couldn't really care less - the bonus is a pathetic £170, woopdeedoo. I'm just missing home at the moment, not that I'm missing the weather you're having. I can't really be bothered staying here, but know that it's not the right time to leave. Flippin heck, I'm whining like a little girl. Anyway, I'll shut up now.

you just gotta have an opinion

I want to write something a bit controversial to get some debate going - the trouble is I stayed up too late last night getting shot to pieces by James in Red Faction and didn't get to sleep until after 2am this morning - so I can't think of anything interesting to debate. All I want to do is have a good debate with someone...

Help...

Can I help you?

They say that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but it's the highest form of humor.

Maybe it's just me that thinks my sarcasm is funny.

Who knows?

WHY

I'm sitting here exhausted and yet I wont go to bed. I just continue to post stupid comments.

With that I shall retire

for the evening.

Good to see you all

Delayed Reaction

If I was as into the football world cup as I thought I was, and supporting the team I chose to support properly, I probably would have posted about this a bit earlier. So England is out. Demolished in a penalty shoot out - and what's worse, ummmm... I don't know - false shock, disappointment, gutted-ness, is that poor old Beck's has resigned as captain. Believe me, that's gutting because there's nobody else quite so pretty as our David on the team to be captain; hold on, there's always the Roone-nator.

Our David, what a weirdo I am. At lease the swede is gone: "hello, my name is sven, I am from Sveden - I have no legs", and now no English team to manage. Don't know why I didn't like the guy - "he wasn't right, in the head [beat] ahahhahhaaaha" - crazy laugh done by Steven the Irishman in Braveheart.

The funny thing is, while it's gutting because it was heaps of fun to go around to people's houses to watch the game and support the team, I don't care that much. Not enough to cry - having said that, I didn't even care that much when the AB's were knocked out of the last world cup. And I call myself a kiwi.

Oh well, I couldn't really care less about who won now - funnily enough, it'd be cool if Portugal wins because they're the only team who hasn't won it yet.

Ah well, what are you going to do.
